As I said in an article I posted four years ago about the experiences (simply unbelievable) the writer went through trying to help two widows after the death of their husbands (both personal friends) just a month apart about the necessity of planning ahead for the death of a loved one, Devvy Kidd, a writer for NewsWithViews.com even goes into more detail about that necessity and specially what needs to be done.
Her article entitled, ARE YOU PREPARED FOR THIS? MOST AREN'T UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE, is rather lengthy but well worth the read. Here is link to access her article:

Wills:
I cannot urge you strongly enough to do what Devvy says if you truly love your surviving spouse or the individual who will be taking over your affairs after you pass away. I also empathize with Devvy about the problems we seniors face with constantly increasing costs with no corresponding increase in whatever benefits we receive or money earned from working the small jobs we can handle or others give us. In fact I don't know whether or not I will make it in a couple of years. AND ALL OF IT IS CAUSED BY SELFISH GREED WITH BOTTOM LINES MORE IMPORTANT THAN HUMAN LIFE ITSELF. At times I feel like a tree watching the sawyer approach to cut me down with no place to run or hide--a very scary feeling.
