It is beyond dispute that St. Petersburg International Economic Forum be held from the 2nd to 5th of June this year is one of the largest economic and perhaps political events of world-wide importance. Maybe not the whole world, but at least half of the world is almost certainly looking forward to the coming business event. One and a half years have lapsed since the start of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We have been living in a state of emergency for all that time and we certainly have so much to talk about, reconsider our values and approaches. There is need to meet face to face, stare into each other’s eyes and decide on how to go on living.
The isolation has displayed clearly strengths and weaknesses of national economies, highlighted priorities and revealed major shortcomings in various fields, put forth new scientific challenges. Everyone realizes that henceforth we have to make a lot of efforts in order to restore lost relations, revive suspended joint projects or undertake brand-new ones.
We cannot achieve outstanding performance unless we act in concert. It is the point conveyed by the main theme of the 2021 Forum – ‘A Collective Reckoning of the New Global Economic Reality’. The Forum’s program and names of key speakers are already declared.
The forum will be broken down into four sections:
• The human factor in responding to global challenges,
• Delivering on national development targets,
• Joining forces to advance development,
• New technology frontiers.
The Forum’s program schedules meetings and dialogues of representatives of the business communities of Africa, Latin and North America, European countries, such as Germany, Italy, Finland, Sweden, France. Representatives of Qatar and Japan notified their intention to attend the event as well. There also is the business dialogue ‘EAEU–ASEAN’ on the agenda.
It worth noting that the Qatar delegation will be one the largest in the Qatar’s history of participating in international forums to date. Representatives of 50 Qatar organizations committed to arrive to the northern capital of Russia. They are going to discuss trade, economic and cultural relationships between our countries. Besides, Russian regions’ investment climate and follow-up initiatives needed to promote the launch of new investment cycle will be the subject of wide discussion.
St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is a kind of unique in its own. For the first time businessmen assembled using this format in the remote 1997. After nine forums held, since 2006 the President of Russia started to attend the event. The president’s auspices certainly raised the status of the meeting. Last year the Forum was suspended due to the restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This year we expect plenty of worldwide business elite representatives.
